*_History of Martial Arts_
Shaolin Kung Fu, also called Shaolin Wushu, is believed to be the oldest institutionalized style of Kung Fu and is one of the most famous martial arts. Shaolin Kung Fu originated and was developed in the Buddhist Shaolin temple in Songshan mountain, Henan province, China.
According to legends, At the Shaolin monastery, Bodhidharma saw that the monks were weak from meditation and fasting.
He taught them the martial arts he had learned as a young prince… similar to Kalaripayattu! This gave birth to the famous kung-fu warrior monks of Shaolin!
Kalari
or Kalaripayattu of ancient India is the world's oldest martial arts. Infact, it is the mother of all martial arts in the world. Ancient buddhist monks who travelled from India to China to spread buddhism are said to have taught these martial arts to the Chinese.

Martial Arts
Physical
Benefits
(1)Strength
Proper form is essential in order to execute an effective kick or punch, but you need strength to make sure your attack is powerful. By practicing martial arts, you have the opportunity to train your body to become stronger and more formidable.
(2)Coordination
Martial arts require students to have good stability and coordination when it comes to executing moves, blocking, and avoiding attacks. As you practice, you will quickly improve both your stability and coordination.
(3)Flexibility
Dodging attacks and performing moves such as high kicks requires quite a bit of flexibility. Having a more flexible body can help reduce the likelihood of injury, and certain martial arts disciplines can help you significantly improve your flexibility.
(4)Cardiovascular
Health
Cardiovascular health is important to manage, especially since it is closely linked to your heart. Drills done during training can help you build cardiovascular endurance and increase the positive impact of aerobic exercise.
(5)Blood Pressure
Martial arts require quite a bit of training, which contributes to improved fitness. One of the physical benefits of taking part in martial arts is improved blood pressure. Repetitive movements during training can behave like high-intensity interval training which improves your cardiovascular health by lowering your blood pressure and slowing down your resting heart rate.
Mental
Benefits
(1) Self-Confidence
Martial arts training is a great way to develop a good sense of confidence. Because martial arts techniques require patience and attention to detail, many moves in various disciplines can take years to master. Once students learn the techniques though, they feel accomplished, which empowers them with good self-esteem and a high level of confidence.
(2)Focus
*_According to Bruce Lee, martial arts also have the nature of an art, since there is emotional communication and complete emotional expression._*
Types of martial arts
- Karate. This covers many styles of self-defense involving kicks, punches, and open-handed chops. It’s believed that the word “karate” was first used in Okinawa, Japan, when a martial artist created a form of martial art that had Chinese influences. "Kara” originally referred to China and “karate” to Chinese hand—but the Japanese translation of karate is “empty hand.” As with all martial arts, karate has different levels of ranking, reflecting expertise. In karate (as well as many other martial arts) they’re denoted by belts in different colors, with the well-known black belt representing the highest level of expertise.
- Judo. This martial art also originated in Japan. Like jujitsu and aikido, it’s based largely on grappling, but in this case with an emphasis on throws and pinning the opponent to the ground.
- Hapkido. This Korean martial art incorporates a variety of weapons, including belts, ropes, and canes. They’re used in moves including kicks, joint locks, throws, and hand strikes to the body’s pressure points.
- Kung fu. This Chinese martial art uses numerous fighting styles, some of them involving acrobatic elements such as flips, jumps, and high kicks. Kung fu can be loosely divided into two schools: those that focus on arm work, such as rapid, close-range punching; and those that focus on acrobatics, with kicks and leg work. Some kung fu forms encourage the practitioner to be aggressively forceful, while others encourage the yielding model, in which you use the attacker’s force against him or her. Some schools emphasize a focus on relaxation and visualization techniques.
